Xtreme's new trail accessory

Post by X-Treme »

I just picked up this 'barely used' STIHL 026 Chain Saw + Carrying/Storage Case on Craigslist. Seeing as how practically every trail had a downed tree across it I thought I'd make my life easier with this rather than using a hand saw.

Welcome to the Chainsaw Club!

Nice saw, I miss the Stihl saws we have at home. From limbing and cutting down trees to cutting through concert and asphalt the Stihl saws are awesome (note the concrete/asphalt saw is a different design).

Make sure you pickup and use the proper PPE!

:agree:

At the very least buy the cheapest pair of chainsaw pants you can. Most TSC stores have a 50 dollar pair.

Oh, and nice saw!!

And I am not a good role model for PPE. Safety glasses, hearing protection, long pants and steel toes are a bare minimum.

PPE? Talk about change in the times. I spent a summer doing nothing but running a chain saw cutting up logs for firewood. No safety pants, helmet, goggles, gloves, etc. Only a pair of work boots  At least I still have my 9 fingers and 6 toes

Nice saw. I have a Husky 353.

Not the biggest saw but that is a good thing when you are working in the bush for 3 hours with it.

This is a topic that I know a fare amount with being up at Basecamp and doing lots of research on it (great site http://www.arboristsite.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

I have been working with it ALOT in the bush to clear our trails and downed/danger trees etc.

Please make sure that you pickup some safety gear. When things go bad with a saw they happy really fast and the results are less than friendly. Kickback from the saw is violent to say the least and will come a shock even if you are ready for it.

Also keep your chain SHARP. A dull chain is more dangerous and can also burn out your engine.

When I'm in the trails I have chainsaw pants that have bunch of layers of fiberglass sewn into the front to catch in the saw should it make contact, chainsaw gloves (fiberglass on the tops) and a helmet with cage and ear protection. I normally also wear a lone sleeve shirt.

Did not notice till now that I have my SOXC on for this pic:

I know that I see like a nanny about this stuff but like all things it is not till it happens that it is a real.
