WTF Xterra has black box, look what i found on other xterra forum

WARNING - When my tech hooked up the diagnostic PC to my truck, he could see a LOT of data. He said they wouldn't hold it against me or tell my insurance company anything, but I don't know that all Nissan techs and service departments are as laid back as mine. Some things displayed on the diagnostic were top speed, highest camber tilt (I had a 28 degree tilt!), impact data, high speed turns, and it even displays when you were and weren't wearing your seat-belt (I'm sure there is plenty more). All these events have a date and time stamp with them too. Regardless of the fact that my truck was without power for a period of time, all the data was still saved. Be careful, guys.

Yes that is information stored in the SRCSM system when in the event of an accident. It tells the story of how the vehicle reacted before, during and after the accident. Information is gathered from the speed sensors, yaw sensor, g sensor, steering angle sensor and so on.....

the normal diagnostic equipment supplied by nissan cannot access any of that data. The only data that we can really access is what gets stored in freeze frame data when a dtc code is stored, and the worst it might say is you were doing 160kph when it set a code for you leaving your gas cap loose...

When we were having problems with murano cvt transmissions, there was a team of guys that came from nissan japan and inspected 2 vehicles at our shop. The hooked up enough wires that the vehicle looked like spagetthi. They were able to access all the vehicle history etc...

There would be no reason for a normal dealership to spend the money on the kind of equpment needed to access that information.

Not the dealership but if theres a court claim then insurance is in on it due to a tragic accident. They wil spend the money.

It would have to go to a shop that either has the equipment or such, there's no way for us to get at that data at the dealership
