Noob in Toronto

Post by Rev »

Hey everyone. Writing from Toronto here. I recently purchased a 2008 Xterra SE this summer and have been wanting to take it offroad. However, I have no idea where it is legal etc. So I started looking around and found thenewx site where I learned a lot about what this vehicle can do (and the amount of money some people can sink into their X). It was there that someone mentioned that this was a great Canadian site with some good people, so I joined here.
I have a completely stock rig, though hopefully sliders and better tires will be on the way this spring. Then after that who knows? I already find myself having trouble getting into parking garages and even some mall parking lots, so a lift is tempting but not very practicle.
So are there opportunities for a noob with no experience and a stock vehicle to get their feet wet and do a little offroading? I can’t really do many weekend events since I work Sundays, unless I get time off far in advance, but nearby Saturday runs would be great. Though I guess the snow is coming soon so there won’t be much wheelin to be had. Any guidance is appreciated and this looks like a great site.

HI there, welcome to CNTC!!

For the most part, our wheeling season is over... most of the trails we hit are shared with the snowmobile association, and they take over the trails Nov 1st. So, here's your advanced warning, we'll be wheeling next June!! lol

I am sure some of the new gen Xterra owners can give you some advice on where to spend your $$$. Tires and sliders are a great start!

I figured the trails would be closing soon (especially with the snow today!). Looking forward to June then! Don't have a lot of cash to throw at the truck, but something tells me I'll find some.

Welcome, I'm personally looking forward to some winter wheeling. You need to have the right locations for it though, no snowmobile trails :fist: .

Dufferin/Eglinton. Not big on the snowboarding man. I try to avoid anything on skies! Gravity never seems to work in my favour.

Hi guys, I recognize Rev from thenewx.org. It seems there are a few of us GTA noobs out there wanting to learn how to do this off-roading thing without too much up-front risk/travel/expense; that's not to say that the addiction won't ravage us eventually... ;)

I have roots in Ottawa and hope to combine some family visits and some learning with the Eastern Ontario Trail Blazers some time soon. Their web site makes them out to be very noob-friendly and they go all four seasons "4x4x4" as they say. I've just arranged to get rear tow hooks, and buying a tow strap is easy, so I'll be good to go soon.

Count me in for any get together. After Nov. 21 works better for me. I live in Uxbridge.

Hey Xtrapol8. Glad to hear there is another noob out there without 35" tires and a 6" lift wanting to get his truck dirty. Let me know how it goes in the Ottawa area. I'm thinking that there will plenty of opportunities to get our trucks dirty in the spring. I'm sure there are places up in Uxbridge to Wheel.

Just paid my $20 to become premium baby! Can't wait for that sticker. Will be my first! :happydance:

I also just reread a few of these posts and we were talking about a coffee meet. Anyone in the GTA interested in one this January?

Well this forum has been pretty dead lately. I've just had a lot of time on my hands lately. And that is not a bad thing.

So tell me, what do you think of the colour red??

Coffee meet -- I was thinking we're due for one... typically they are hosted in Mississauga or Milton... but they can be set up elsewhere if there is enough interest. I would suggest a new thread in the event section so we don't muck up your welcome thread.

Okay fine, start a thread already. http://www.cntc.ca/phpBB3/viewtopic.php ... 092#p14092" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nothing to see here... :squeam:

LOL

I couldn't think of any other comments... so i like red. I really do. :teeth: I guess you got my donation. Good. I was just waiting for 2009 to donate. Sticker please! j/k

Mayabe it is time to have a coffee meet in more central GTA. I'll look into places and post in the event thread. I'm sure some people would make the drive over or down. I know there are some in the east end and one in Barrie interested. Not to hijack my own thread or anything.
