Re: Gas Can
I am sure there is a bit of a mix, but the standard military style gas can is 20 litre (5gallon)

Yep. There's plastic military cans as well. Check National4wd.com

Re: Gas Can
I wanted red, but they only do green now. The red gas cap holder is supposed to indicate gas.

Re: Gas Can
I've heard it's illegal to drive with these full on the road when mounted to the exterior. Anyone know for sure?

Re: Gas Can
No, it's not illegal - better, of course, would be a fuel cell like what they use in the back of pickups for farm work, with the full nozzle, pump, and whatnot. But there's nothing illegal about a can on the back. If it were, you wouldn't see them.
The problem with them is that they don't have a vent, so the fuel expands in heat, and then splashes around, and sure enough it's overflowing out thru the cap. I put in a little screw on the top that I can adjust - it acts as a valve. 'Course this means I'm breaking every law in California. But I don't live in Cali, so it's OK.

How do you get to work in the morning if you don't have fuel in your vehicle......Scotto wrote:Yes it is. Fuel should never be inside your vehicle.the x kid wrote:Is it forbidden to carry these inside the vehicle on a trail run?
Scott
Or did you have a grammatical brain fart and actually mean "Fuel should never be inside the passenger compartment of your vehicle"

Re: Gas Can
Don't know about you, but the fuel in my truck is not inside the vehicle... it's in the fuel tank, on the outside of the vehicle.

Re: Gas Can
Military ones are a good buy. I have a few.
They are extremely strong and have thick side walls. Had one in the back of a pickup truck during that insanely hot few days last week and the thing expanded about 4-5 inches due to the heat and sloshing around of fuel but it never cracked. Once I let the fumes out, it took about a day before it went back to its normal shape.

You have a few? What do you mean when you say you have a lot?
Sweet Jesus. I'd love one of the mil. green ones. Can I get one from ya', or would I be breaking up the collection?
