Re: Eletrical help
Wish I could be of some help, but I can only suggest google a "dual battery" or "dual alternator" setup.
Good luck
Good luck

Re: Eletrical help
I gotta ask...why dual alternators? I have read many dual batteries set ups but never a dual alternator.

Re: Eletrical help
Another reason is because the second alternator will be in place of or just below the AC compressor it will not get submerged in water. This is on a wd21 were the AC is at the top right.

Re: Eletrical help
Indeed you're power requirements aren't bad for one alternator. I've got a 165A which would be plenty in your case, but I totally understand why you'd want a spare. I don't see it being a problem, many people have, but I researching this now for you, some people say there may be problems with power regulation, others don't, but those that don't seem to be legit in their claims. One mention, which is a great idea to consider, would be to add in a "fail-safe diode" so that the one alternator doesn't get damaged or excessively works if the other alternator dies or the regulator malfunctions, but it could affect charging since diodes eat up 0.7v. Here's a good read on running multiple alternators:

There's even things like regulators for multiple alternators:
http://www.amplepower.com/products/sarv3/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In the end, it seems like alot of theory is being thrown around but little concrete evidence on it. Ironicly, it's something that's been done in car audio systems for a while, even some heavy-duty pickup trucks use multiple alternators from the factory. Personally, I don't see any problems running 2 alternators directly , especially if they're identical, I asked my one car audio buddy, he's worked with them and hasn't experienced or seen any problems with that setup.
This is how I would wire it.
