Woo Hoo New Toy!!!
Bought the wife a new vehicle, the Xterra is officially a project!
Hell yea!!
Sending out some feelers on possible modifications
I am new to the import scene. So I guess I can be referred to as a newbie. I can take it!
1st feeler...
We spun the timing belt on the orginal motor and replaced it with the equilivent Pathfinder motor and it's a gutless
gas hungry (worse than the orginal) bleep and bleep and bleep bleep
Has anyone thrown in a small block chevy into one of these yet? If so what hidden challenges have you come across. Does anyone know of any local shops (the GTA) that like to take on this type of work
I have a 406 that would make this into a really sweet ride
2nd feeler...
Does any one have any opinions on the Calmini solid axel swap kits
Good or bad I want to figure out which direction to go with this project
Thanks so much for any imput
Looking forward to meeting and trailing with new wheelers
Cheers

Re: Woo Hoo New Toy!!!
The only V8 I've ever seen/know if is putting the Titan motor into a 2nd gen Xterra/Frontier, but that's mostly because they are on the same platform. I've never seen anything done into a 1st gen, but the hard part isn't the motor, the hard part is keeping the 4x4 system. There'll be alot of custom adaptors, axles and such. A V8 swap will probably cost as much as you paid for that truck with parts and labor
I think the Calmini kit is decent, as far as I've heard anyway. Didn't really hear about much complains, but I haven't done an research on SAS kits anyway.

Go for the V8. Parts of it will be a pita, but awesome.

Re: Woo Hoo New Toy!!!
I think a Titan swap into a 2000 would be tuff. What makes the swaps doable on the current generation of Xterras/Frontiers is the common (common-ish) platform, and the factory fit Pathfinder V8s. Swapping out the front diff will solve some of the issues but I doubt you can swap the motor alone...probably motor, tranny and t-case (or upgraded t-case) will be required. My bet is it would be simpler, and cheaper, to swap a complete GM or Ford powertrain in with a SAS.

Re: Woo Hoo New Toy!!!
Yea will probably go with full
powertrain swap, then you know all parts will hold up!
Any feedback on the Calmini solid axle swap? Will it hold up???
The Chev 406 was turned at 385Hp and 410ft/lbs on the dyno.
Was going to go into a full size mudder so I have plenty of powertrain parts
Thinking Dayna 60's front and back
Has anyone been down this road or should I find an old CJ
Cheers
