Motor swap???
Anyone with an 01-04 pathfinder with the VQ35DE motor ever look into swapping it out for a 350Z VQ35DE? I'm trying to find information on it. I know the output difference is about 50hp an 25lbs/tq but the 350 uses a 6spd manual vs my 5spd. Anyone with information could you direct me to some links?
Thanks

Re: Motor swap???
It is unlikely that they would be interchable.
The crankshaft and timing would be completely different from the R50 engine, and would require heavy modification to the electrical system and computer system to make it work.
The 50 horsepower difference if probably in the exhaust header and cylinder head design, as well as the crankshaft stroke.

You can check out www.hybridz.com and dig around there. Lots of nissan swaps over there.

Re: Motor swap???
Plus chances are the 6 speed tranny isn't set up to be attached to a transfer case...
To lift, or not to lift? What a stupid question...

Re: Motor swap???
The more I look into it the more intrigued I'm becoming. Aparently other the top end, heads, intake, timing etc, they're identical. So its concievable that the swap would be able to happen. There woulld probably be need of a piggy back, maybe megaquirt. It just would be nice to pump this motor up to the 300hp mark. No ones really dwelled to far into from everything I've been reading though

Re: Motor swap???
As long as you're not planning on wheeling it, it may work out. Put it under some stress or towing and something might break.

Re: Motor swap???
I decided to look into it, there's a few threads around the net referencing that. I'm sure you've come across them

I think the motor is the lesser of any issues, I want to say it'll work. Engine harness may be run interestingly in the pathy. Would be the easiest solution to get the motor running. I read real quick that the VQ ECM's have a higher resolution than MS, not sure if that includes MS3. I would say it would be easier to start with the OEM harness and ECM for the swap and at least get the motor mounted and running, rather than adding an extra complexity to the troubleshooting if she doesn't want to fire up.
For the trans, there's mixed opinions, some say they're strong and running over 1000hp, others say they've been trough a few. JWT advertises the trans as very strong and makes a kit to use it on a VG30DE(TT), SR20DE, KA24DE, VH45DE and VK56 soon.
I want to say the only issue with be mating the 6-Speed to the T-Case, unless you keep your original trans.
