Radiator has blown
Well, the good truck blew the rad today. Big crack across the top (the black plastic bit.) Being the good truck it is, it let the cap go first - the rubber gaskets failed yesterday. And so, after work today, bought the new cap, and watched it in the driveway to see if that was the problem. That's when I saw the crack open up. Looks like the crack has been building for a while, but being cool, and with the gasket not holding pressure, all was reasonably OK. The crack is about 4" long.
Anyway, ordering new rad tomorrow. Installing tomorrow night.
Helpful question to answer me: how much rad fluid does an Xterra hold? Anything I might want or need to be prepared for?

Almost 11L from empty, including topping up the Res. Don't forget to burp her when you're done. I mean it...

Don't forget to mix it according to the chart on the bottle, not just dumping it in straight. Usually 50/50.
1 4L jug of coolant will yield 8L of mixed coolant.

Re: Radiator has blown
Done. Done. And done.
I never actually removed the rad from my truck before - cleaning it was always easy due to no fan shroud. So, this was a rather disappointing repair. I think I had 1/8th of a beer during the R&R. I even ordered pizza, thinking I might be busy and not be able to get around to cooking (Jennifer has pneumonia, so I have been acting as chef...) That 1/8th of a beer included replacing the upper & lower hoses. Cleaning the connecting pipes. Mixing the stuff together. And chucking the old rad into the neighbour's yard.
Locks are back to normal. Dried out the interior, and I smacked the key fob a few times and it sorted itself out.
That's all I got...
I know - rather disappointing post.

So what I really gleaned from this thread is that Scott drinks slowly.

Still skeptical....Geoffrey wrote:So - Jayman, based on the above: you're good to go!
As a polite FYI to you, good sir; my power steering pump is on it's last legs, so prepare yourself for that on your truck.
Alty too actually, but it's been dying a very slow death, fighting tooth and nail to go as long as it can.
