Torsion bar question
Hi, I'm new to the site and have a 2002 Xterra with a cracked torsion bar. Will be replacing them with a Sway-a-way set.
I have two questions.
Is there anything else I need to replace and can anyone recommend a shop in southern ON? I would be willing to drive an hour or so in any direction for a great shop. I live downtown Toronto.
Thanks for your time.

Re: Torsion bar question
You're truck is 12 years old, make sure you do your self a favour and put new anchors and adjusters in at the same time.
If you haven't already, you should do a PML with rear shackles at the same time. This will allow you to take advantage of the SAW bars.
Make sure whomever installs them knows that you expect the adjuster to be buried in the cross bar when they are done tightening them. They will work fine sticking out for a mall crawler, but if you plan on off-roading, you will catch and break the adjuster if it's not indexed correctly.
Make sure you do an alignment afterwards.
I'm pretty sure there's a how to around here somewhere on how to do it.

Re: Torsion bar question
These are the parts that I urge people not to skimp on. If they are 10 years old, they've been supporting the complete weight of your truck over every pot hole.
SAW bars are even tighter, putting more strain on old parts.
Don't skip the highlighted stuff!

Agree with mike, I've seen a few members put in new bars only to have the stock adjuster splines strip.

Re: Torsion bar question
Hey all, Thanks for your quick replies!!!
Morpheus and Bow_Tied, I for sure will take your advice on replacing all the needed parts.
I was reading here on the CNTC and saw a few posts mentioning Mike at Milton Nissan. Would it beneficial to take it to a Nissan dealer? (get the parts quicker, more experience) Not sure but thought I would ask.
Drizit, Thanks I will check out CT and Just jeeps web sites.
Really appreciate all your help, thanks so much! New to Ontario, grew up out west so my go to guys and shops are in Yellowknife and Vancouver.....
Little far of a drive to get some work done!

That particular Mike is a member here and if you are willing to drive to the dealer he works at I would strongly suggest you do.

Re: Torsion bar question
So once you get used to the asshattery around here it's a good place to hang. Yes, Mike is the Service Manager at Milton Nissan and a knowledgeable guy to boot (has a lifted Xterra). If you are a new to automotive service torsion bars are not a thing to take on yourself, they can be dangerous. If you aren't near Milton (where abouts are ya?) any good service shop can do the work if you are starting with a stock rig. G/LARCTICboy wrote:Hey all, Thanks for your quick replies!!!

Re: Torsion bar question
Ha, Yes seems like a lively place!
It did make me wonder after that amazing detailed post with part numbers and cost breakdown....
I'm at Bloor and Lansdowne. I work from home so its no problem to go to Milton. I will call in the next few days to make an appointment.
Hope to meet you all if I can swing the Labour day adventure weekend!
Thanks again for all your help and quick replies.

I would also spray the bolts down with PB blaster as they are likely rusted. Make things easier for everybody.

Re: Torsion bar question
So important he said it twice yep I'd start spraying every bolt that has to come off every day for about a week before hand.
